TCSS Youth Leadership Retreat 2025
Dr. Truelove spent the first part of each morning hyping up our future scholars who attended the Youth Leadership Retreat.
With the elementary school students he empowered them to L.E.A.D. both in and out of the classroom, get excited about the opportunities they have in their future, and build their confidence in themselves. With the secondary school students he went into detail on four leadership keys. These included reinforcing the importance of looking out for others when they’re in need, encouraging others to do their best, helping themselves and others be accountable for their success, and being someone others can depend on.
In February of 2025, 220 elementary and 170 secondary TCSS students were chosen to represent their schools at our Whole Child Youth Leadership Retreat. These students spent the day on the University of Alabama's campus hearing from the magnificent Dr. Daniel Truelove, learning what it means to be a Whole Child from our cherished Mrs. Brandi Shanklin, and working together with their classmates and teachers to pinpoint areas of improvement in their schools.
They spent time brainstorming, discussing, and creating action plans for these improvements. They danced, sang, and laughed with their district leaders, their teachers, and the Whole Child staff. They had fun eating pizza, playing with balloons, and for many of them experiencing what it's like to be on a college campus for the first time.
But most importantly, they spent time learning what it means to be a leader, how they can become (and continue to be) leaders in their schools and communities, and how they can make a difference in their own lives as well as the lives of those around them.
